| I would like to thank the Committee who on behalf of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Northern NSW Inc., invited Jenny & myself to judge their Championship Shows on 10th & 11th September 2005. The show on 10 September was the Club’s inaugural Championship show and I was honoured to officiate at this show. I must also say a special ’thank you’ to Ernie Herbert for accommodating us during our stay. |

| I thoroughly enjoyed my judging appointment and must thank the exhibitors for supporting me with a super entry of 194 and for accepting my decisions graciously. The quality of exhibits was very good, in fact there was little evidence of the caricature head so prevalent in the UK and although some dogs were top size, I found them more athletic than the majority of UK show stock. Presentation was in the main good, however I would like to see a little more effort go into the general fitness of the dogs and bitches. Cosmetically, attention to detail needs to be improved i.e. trimming tails, clipping nails, cleaning teeth and coat cleanliness and condition. Dentition faults were in evidence and this needs to be addressed in breeding programmes. |
| . |
| It was certainly an experience judging baby puppies (i.e. less than 6 months), as this is not carried out in the UK and I was surprised how well the puppies handled and performed. I am personally of the opinion that pups should be allowed to be pups and that there is plenty of time to subject them to the rigours of the show ring. However, I must admit that the pups seemed more than happy and the exercise proved to be an excellent method of show training. |

| CLASS 1 – BABY PUPPY DOG – 13 (No Absentees) | |
| . |
| | 1ST LAW’s SHKIRI LOUIS VUITTON – Black/Brindle. Well defined head, short coupled, balanced with plenty of substance. Moved out very well for one so young. Hope he doesn’t mature into a heavy type dog. 2nd LANE’s SANDTOYS ARSENAL - (19 weeks) Black/brindle. Clean headed with dark, round eyes. A shade longer cast than 1st, however was well conformed and moved well. 3rd AUSTIN-CLEARY’s TYKABUL DICEY RILEY - (13 weeks) Black & white. Good head, short coupled, clean off the front. Difficult to assess movement, but caught my eye. A nice pup at this stage of the game. | | SHKIRI LOUIS VUITTON | | | | |

| CLASS 2 – MINOR PUPPY DOG – 5 (1 Absent) | |
. | | 1ST LANE’s LANVILLA BLAK ON TRAK – (8 months) Black/brindle puppy exhibiting no exaggerations. Lovely head shape, short coupled. Won the class on size and balance, however his front could be truer and rear quarters are a shade over-angulated. Nevertheless moved out very well. 2nd SHAW’s BELLEDEN CROWN PRINCE - (7 months) Red of substance, possessing a good head. Had a level topline and a good bend of stifle. A shade longer in the back than 1st and stronger off the front. Moved out with positive locomotion. 3rd BAMBACH & TATTERSALL’s STAFFBACH BULLET HOLE – (8 months) Black/brindle. Heavier than 1 & 2, good headed, short coupled with enough bend of stifle. Stronger than my personal preference but again, moved with discernable drive. | | LANVILLA BLAK ON TRAK

| CLASS 3 – PUPPY DOG – 6 (0 Absent) | |
. | | 1ST JONES’ HIGHBOURNE SUPER IMPOSE – (10 months) Black/brindle/white. Super fit puppy that fits the Standard and when allowed, moved with the required locomotion. At present a little over headed and needs to finish off to give the desired expression. In profile exhibits a balanced and athletic outline with correct front and rear angulation. Handler needs to relax tension on the lead in order not to “string” up his charge. Overall, my type of animal. BEST PUPPY IN SHOW – well done. 2nd GILBERT’s MUDDYPAWS SONOFRUFUS – (11 months) Brindle. Close decision for 1st. Superior head type with the same attributes as 1. Just preferred the cleaner bodylines and fitness of winner. 3rd ROSS’ SWANKY IAM BRUCE – (9 months) Brindle. Similar attributes to 1 & 2, possessing a good head and level top line. However lacked bend of stifle. | | HIGHBOURNE SUPER IMPOSE

. | | | 1ST SHAW’s CH BELLEDEN DEVIL OV ORION - White/Brindle. Well put together and in fit condition. Excellent body properties with correct rear angulation and bend of stifle. My type of dog, who just lost out on movement to the Challenge Certificate winner. RESERVE CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE – well done. | | . | | 2ND BAMBACH/TATTERSALL’s CH STAFFBACH BULLETPROOF – Black/brindle – close decision between 1 and 2. Similar attributes to 1st: clean fronted, balanced, with excellent head properties and no exaggeration. Just preferred the rear movement of 1st. | | . | | 3rd TIERNEY'S BELLEDEN ROCCO – brindle/white. Well made dog, but a shade heavier than 1 & 2. Well conformed with good bend of stifle, level topline and again, pleasing head properties. | | | CH BELLEDEN DEVIL OV ORION

| CLASS 11 – OPEN DOG – 20 (2) | |
. | | 1ST KOENDIDDA KENNELS’ CH KOENDIDDA UMRUM – White. Super headed dog with excellent expression. Good ear carriage and underjaw and correct dentition. A short-coupled, well bodied dog with a true front and superb front and rear angulation, which was borne out in his exemplary movement. A dog who cannot be denied and although my personal preference is a somewhat lighter animal, on the day his conformation, movement and ring presence demanded top honours. Challenge Certificate and Best in Show – well done and congratulations. 2nd BROOKS’ WILLSPRIDE COCKNEY REBEL – Black/brindle. Top size, well put together with a clean front and adequate bend of stifle. Held his top line on the move and propelled freely and purposefully. Liked his head type and cleanliness of muzzle. Would have preferred a shade more fitness, however, unfortunate to meet 1st whose movement and condition was exceptional. .3rd FRAZER’s CH HIGHBOURNE BARYSHNIKOV – Black/Brindle. A dog of virtues who was in good company and deserved his placing. Excellent head and body properties. Moved out with purpose, however rear quarter movement a little close. | | CH KOENDIDDA UMRUM

| CLASS 11a – OPEN BITCH – 17 (0) | |
. | | | 1ST STANLEY’s HIGHBOURNE PRECOCIOUS – black brindle/white. Nicely balanced bitch of the type I was looking for. Not overdone in any way, great expression, super conformation, who moved out purposefully and with drive. Was presented in fit condition, however, when examining her teeth found they were stained and dirty. Although seemingly cosmetic, there is no excuse for dirty teeth as this does not help the bitch in later years and after all it is a beauty show. Dirty teeth may well have cost her the CC. RESERVE CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE – well done. | | . | | 2ND OSBORNE’s CH TUSKSTOCK ALL EYEZ ON ME – black brindle/white. Similar in type to 1st, maybe a shade heavier. Shown in fit condition, very close decision – just preferred the make and shape of 1 | | . | | 3RD SHAW’s CH BELLEDEN DE LA ROUGE – Red. Topsize bitch of excellent proportions. Super head type, great expression and so clean for a red. Just a tad strong off the front, however had a great back-end and was one of the best movers of the day. | | | HIGHBOURNE PRECOCIOUS
