Critiques and Gallery 7th Championship Show

13th September 2008
Judge: MR NORMAN BERRY - RENDORN (UK)
.

May I offer my heartfelt thanks to the committee members for their warm welcome and comfort during a most successful show. I wish to point out a particularly thank you to that perfect gentleman Mr. Neil Brooks who orchestrated the whole business with great kindness and consideration for my welfare on the day. Many thanks to Anne for her great effort of stewarding and assistance inside the ring and my final thanks to all exhibitors for their entries, many who had travelled far and wide incurring expensive travelling cost of which is bedevilling the show scene at these present times.

I also had the great pleasure meeting old friends from my past visits to Australia, Mrs Mavis Prior (Crossguns) John and Viv Ross (Swanky) Dorothy Wood (Jehard) Mr and Mrs Dawes (Bajed) Sandy Consadine (Mosstrooper) and the Morse brothers from New Zealand.

With regard to my findings I was impressed by the standard of specimens presented and by the good variety of colours on view. I felt movement the biggest cause for concern, by exhibits carrying too much angulation at the rear quarters. A few with steep upper arms. Mouths I thought were not too much concern to which I thought might have been a problem, Yes! there were a few converging canines, others with border line cases of which I felt, if, by applying a pedantic inclination may lead to the old maxim of ‘throwing the baby out with bath water’. A further concern was the regard to fitness in a number of animals. A little more attention to this problem can be over come with little more effort.

.
CLASS 1 – BABY PUPPY DOG
.

JODEN WEEKEND HUSTLER

I am not inclined to mentioning movement in these minor or baby classes, even a seemingly well proportioned pup may not be able to function well at this age.

1 McCoy. Joden Weekend Hustler - Just what I would be looking for in a young dog puppy. Black Brindle of good type. Well boned, promising head shape, round dark eye and pigmentation. Well boned.

2 Osborne. Pepstaff Latest News - Memories of this affix send shivers down my back. Happy find they are still producing good stuff. Black Brindle. Very much the same type as 1 but I preferred more lift as on the legs on the winner. Very nice puppy with excellent head shape and ears. Nice top line and quarters

3 Austin–Cleary. Tykabul The Teflon Don - Black Brindle. Again a puppy of good promise. Good head shape with correct length of scull to mussel ratio. Strongly boned, level top line. Should be great competition from these three in the future.

4 Chivers.  Belleden Chocka Block
5 Todd. Tussler The Dodger

.
CLASS 2 – MINOR PUPPY DOG
.

.

1 Frazer. Highbourne Dancing Brave - Well put together youngster with a well rounded headpiece and neatly shaped ears. Clean out line, straight front, tight feet.

2 Osborne. Tykabul Sugar Daddy - Predominantly white. Not the head shape of winner, however has he has a pleasing front with level top line and sound balance.

3 Austin-Cleary. Tykabul Easy Mojo - Again, predominantly white. A further promising specimin from the same kennel as previous. Stronger head and better ear shape but a shade longer cast. Well shaped quarters with level top line.

4 Gardner/Martin. Westrover Stoic Tooheys
5 Bajed. Muddy Boots
HIGHBOURNE DANCING BRAVE (AI)
.
CLASS 3 – PUPPY DOG
.

BAJED SAKE

1 Dawes. Bajed Sake - What to expect from this kennel. B/brindle, good headed correct proportion of scull and mussel, Wonderful front and rear quarters. Level top line with good tuck up. Moved well with good tail carriage. Feet need to tighten.

2 Difford/Lane. Lanvilla Jack Aspades - Strikingly outstanding pup. Strongly boned. Level top line. Nice shaped head with dark eye, of which I would like to see a little more rounder. Correct ear carriage. Clean out line. Handler needs to turn his feet a little more inwards to enhance the frontal picture.

3 Shimwell. Ironstaff Bad To The Bone - Bl/brindle. Well boned. A little more longer cast than previous two and needs to rib up. Well balanced with good head shape, clean out line

4 Baker. Alport Wild Boy (Imp UK)
5 Landastaff Blow My Mind
.
CLASS 4 – JUNIOR DOG
.

POWERPAWS JUST DO IT

1 Lee. Powerpaws Just Do It - What a cracker! Well proportion standard sized dog in wonderful bloom. Attractive brindle colouring with white chest and feet. Deep through scull with developed cheek bumps, distinct stop allowing for round eye shape and expression. Well rounded boned legs with well padded feet. Level top line, well tucked up with clean outline. Would like a weenie little more turn of stifle

2 Pratt. Ch Prattstaff Zen Master - Good type with strong head. Would like rounder eye shape, correct ear carriage. Strong front with enough bone to suite and complimented by tight feet and pasterns. Level top line good balance with well turned stifles. Moved well.

3 McCoy. Joden Bold Ruler - B/brindle, well rounded bone with clean shoulder placement. Feet need to be turned in a little for better presentation. Level top line, with spring of rib. Hocks let down to enhance his turn of stifle. Along with the previous two, an excellent mover.

4 Ross. Joden Black Zulu

5 Heselden. Ch Wiltshire Just Cruzin

.
CLASS 5 – INTERMEDIATE DOG
.

BRINDALE TOOHELWIFYA

1 Brindale Kennels. Brindale Toohelwifya - Well balanced B/brindle. Deep through scull, like a more rounded eye placement. Clean fronted with strong bone and well padded feet. Clean neck line with correctly place shoulders. Well ribbed

2 Lane. Ch Lanvilla Nite Crime - B/brindle. A little heavier than I prefer, nevertheless he is a well constructed dog with many qualities. Clean head shape, thin well place ears. Would like a rounder eye shape. Strong clean neckline, good lay of shoulders and level topline.Well rounded boned legs with well padded feet. Moved O.K.

3 Dawes. Lanvilla Talk The Talk - Similar remarks as previous but not as strong in the head but better eye shape. Two excellent specimens from this U.K. sire.

4 Byrne. Cairford Fat Boy Slim

5 Brown. Ryan. Anglice Think Big

.
CLASS 10 – AUSTRALIAN BRED DOG
.

CH HELLFYRE GLACIAL STORM

1 Steele. Ch Hellfyre Glacial Storm - Star of the show. Predominantly white with complimentary dark pigmentation. Strong fronted dog with excellent head properties to match. Thin ears ideally placed, deep through scull with enough length of muzzle. Good clean bite, with tight lips. Level top line with good turn of stifle allowing him the freedom of correct movement which at the conclusion earned him the top spot of the show.

2 Saunders/Stevens. Ch Pennyflower Nedovthnight - Another good dog which almost ticked all the right boxes. B/b, clean front with clean neck line running into well laid shoulder placement and top line Lost out to my winner on head shape but like my winner excelled in movement. Res CC

3 Shimwell Lokstokonstaf Iron Star - Well muscled B,brindle. Put down in superb condition. Strong headed, a little light in the eyes, of which, I was not too pedantic about. Would like him to be a shade longer in the leg.

4 Faithful. Ch Belleden Ghost N Darkness

5 Hill. Magicmine A Pot of Black

.
CLASS 11 – OPEN DOG
.

AUS/NZ CH BELLEDEN DEVIL OV ORION

1 Shaw. Aust/NZ Ch Belleden Devil Ov Orion - Mahogany brindle with predominant white markings. Nicely constructed without exaggeration. Clean front, would like a little more head expression. Neat ear carriage, clean mouth, tight lips, Well sprung rib cage with good tuck up.

2 Gardner/Martin Ch Staffstruck Highvelocity - B/Brindle with white chest. His appealing head shape would be more advanced with a rounder eye placement. However a smart looking specimen with good ear carriage, close coated, wide front, well sprung ribs, good quarters with enough drive in the rear found him good enough to take second place.

3 Byrne. Ch Caiford Tell No Lies - Brindle and white. Keen expression, well balanced with good legs and feet. Correct shoulder placement with level top line, moved with purpose and drive

4 Aldous. Aus/NZ Ch Warfare last Of The Mohician (Imp NZ)

5 Brooks. Ch Willspride Cockney Rebel

.
BITCHES
.
CLASS 1a – BABY PUPPY BITCH
.

STAFFYHAUS LOVE N MERCY

1 Oldenburg. Staffyhaus Love N Mercy - Appealing baby. B/brindle with all the ready made requirements to develop into a winner for the future.

2 Jurkow. Shindarrah Angel of Fire - Wonderful representation of brindle and white, (I love this colour), needs a little time to catch up to winner.

3 Osborne. Pepstaff Lets Get Loud - Attractive brindle, little less compact as previous two. Crying out for more time to improve the necessary points required. Given time I am sure she will become a winner .

4 Dawes. Bajed Bonnie Lass

5 Todd. Tussler Fleur De Lis

.
CLASS 2a – MINOR PUPPY BITCH
.

SANDTOYS FORMAL ATTIRE

1 Lane. Sandtoys Formal Attire - Wow! What a prospect. Beautifully marked, flashy, with great panache. Wonderful constructed front, level top line, clean neck line running into well laid shoulders. Well tuned stifles with hocks let down as required. Move well.

2 Frazer. Highbourne Knock On Wood - A further good looking prospect. B/brindle with strongly proportioned front assembly. Keen expression for one so young. A further contender for top honours.

3 Lane. Lanvilla Butterfly Kisses - found three promising m/puppy’s to make my day. The latter two were of almost equal quality.  B/Kisses, B/brindle head with good definition with deep stop and dark eyes. Up on the leg a little more than other two which cannot be such a bad thing at this stage of development.

4 Dawes. Baked Mystic Powers

5 Austin - Cleary. Tykabul Look At Me

.
CLASS 3a – PUPPY BITCH
.

SWANKY QUITE QUALIFIED

1 Ross. Swanky Quite Qualified - She’s qualified right enough! Outstanding White with dark pigmentation. Beautiful head with wafer thin ear shape to match. Body properties to make one’s eyes water.  Clean cut neck line. Shoulders placed at the correct angle, straight top line well tucked up loins and correct tail carriage. Moved with drive and purpose both ways. This must be the best ‘Swanky’ to date.

2 Osborne. Pepstaff Keep The Faith - B/brindle, nice head, ears a little flighty, round eye, enough length of mussel in rate with scull. Sound body and quarters. Attention to her feet which need to turn in more will enhance front view.

3 Brown/Ryan. Anglice Purely Magic - White with red patches. Seems to need more time to develop Good legs and feet. The spring of rib is there, just needs time.

4 Jones. Bassbred Chiquititta

5 Gardner/Martin. Mosstrooper Make Nice

.
CLASS 4a – JUNIOR BITCH
.

TUATAHI TRIBAL TATTOO

1 Butler/O’Brien. Tuatahi Tribal Warrior - First class bitch with attractive head shape. Clean front with enough ground to shoulder clearance, clean neck and well placed shoulders. Well let down hocks allowing for good movement. Held her top line whilst on the move.

2 Bawden. Castlebar Strip Search - Slightly heaver built B/brindle. Good head with strong mussel and round eye placement. Legs have well rounded bone with enough lay back of the pasterns. As one would expect, moved with efficient drive and and agility.

3 Shimwell. Quarrybank Roxovart - This is not an isolated case, I kept asking exhibitors to stand their charges away from facing the fearsome sun making it difficult to assess eye placement and colour and a great irritant to the dogs.  However, Quarrybank Roxovart. B/brindle, I felt she had all the essentials with regard to the head. Well place ear carriage. Nicely bodied up, top line needs a little improvement, other than that she has many qualities. Move well

4 Zammit. Mokuishla Dark Intentions

5 Doorackers. Taino Kicking Bird

.
CLASS 5a – INTERMEDIATE BITCH
.

JAMELKUR MISS MOMO

1 Birkeland. Jamelkur Miss  Momo - B/brindle with deep through scull, Round eye tight lips ears could be a little neater. Although her shoulders seem a little steep it didn’t affect her movement. Well boned, tight feet. Tail carriage not her fortune.

2 Lane. Ch Lanvilla Nauti Blaknikas - B/brindle with outstanding profile. Classic head and body shape, level top line and good tail carriage. Perhaps would prefer to see a little more turn of stifle.

3 Wood. Jehard Larceny Lu - Brindle. Over sized ears tended to spoil the head experience like a little more strength of mussel. Well sprung ribs and close couplings. Moved O.K.

4 Ross. Swanky So Groovy

5 Membery. Classicstaff Windywillows

.
CLASS 10a – AUSTRALIAN BRED BITCH
.

CH RAYONNOIRE CANNY BAIRN

1 Frazer. Ch Rayonnoire Canny Bairn - B/brindle with classic lines. Strong head well developed cheek bumps, clean bite. Shoulders and neck line to die for. Level top line with well ribbed body make up. CC winner.

2 Elloy. Jehard Miss Moonmaid - B/bridle correct length of mussle to scull ratio. Round eye placement, well up on length of leg. Level towline with good spring of rib. Moved well.

3 Mavin. Lokstonstaf Hot Pants - White with bridle markings. Very typey with strong bone. Would like a little more width across the chest. Put down in fit muscular fashion. Moved well.

4 McCoy. Joden Delta Dawn

5 Austin - Cleary. Ch Tykabul In Vogue

.
CLASS 11a – OPEN BITCH
.

CH HIGHBOURNE NINE CARAT

1 Frazer. Ch Highbourne Nine Carat - I seemed to have hit a rich seam of champions in this class. Class looking specimen like her kennel mate. Not quite as strong in the head of which I prefer. Strong clean front, shoulder placement of the best one could wish for. Level top line with good tale carriage. Moved close behind. Res CC.

2 Pleydell/Fry/Grundy Ch Reewen Black Pearl - Lighter boned B/brindle. Keen expression, would like a little more strength in under jaw. Clean front and tight pasterns. Level top line. Movement again could be better – a curse which seemed to bedevil this class.

3 Hesleden. Ch Dreamcatcher Smoko Girl - B/brindle. Nice height, strong front, well placed shoulders, level top line, Perhaps a little over angulated rear quarters. Put down in tip top condition and coat bloom.

4 Hill. Ch Bajed Miss Blackberry
