| The following Code of Ethics has been introduced by the SBTC of Northern NSW Inc to supplement the welfare and integrity of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The ethics have been orientated to encompass the current Code of Ethics imposed by Dogs NSW Inc (or equivalent in other states.) Additions to their Code of Ethics have been pioneered to embrace and protect the interests of the breed as well as members of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Northern NSW Inc. |

| 1) A member shall, at all times, ensure that all dogs under that member’s control are properly housed, fed, watered exercised and receive proper veterinary attention if and when required |

| 2) A member shall not allow any dogs under that member’s care to roam at large and, when away from home, ensure that they are kept full leashed or under effective control at all times. |
| . |
| 3) A member shall breed only with the intent of maintaining and/or improving the standard of the Breed. |
| . |
| 3a) Members, who are breeders, shall strive to eliminate hereditary diseases within their breed. |
| . |
| 4) A bitch shall not be bred from unless it has reached adequate maturity and is in good health and thereafter not more than twice in each succeeding period for twelve (12) months. |
| . |
| 5) A member shall not knowingly permit any of that member’s purebred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross-bred dog or to any unregistered dog of the same breed or a dog on the Limited or Associate Register. |

| 6) A member shall not sell or otherwise transfer from that member’s care any puppy under eight (8) weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination which must be given at six (6) weeks of age, and for the necessary ten (10) to fourteen (14) days for the vaccine to take effect. |

| 7) A member shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from that Member clearly understands their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal and that they have the time and facilities (ie adequate fences, sufficient room and proper shelter etc) to perform their obligations. |

| 8) A member shall provide to all purchasers of dogs sold or placed by that Member, written details of all dietary and immunisation requirements and/or appropriate publications relating to such requirements and responsible dog ownership. |

| 9) A member shall not: |
| (i) Sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers or retail pet dealers who are not registered with the joint RNSWCC/PIJAC Pet Shop Accreditation Scheme. |
| (ii) Allow a dog owned by that member to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind. |
| (iii) Offer a dog for sale by auction through any form of media. |

| 10) A member shall not KNOWINGLY misrepresent the characteristics of the breed. |

| 11) The Staffordshire Bull Terrier owner/breeder/exhibitor shall NEVER, under any circumstances, condone, support or ignore the practice of pitting a dog against any other animals in a fight for pleasure or profit. Information regarding this type of abuse to animals shall be reported to the proper humane authorities. Breeders should consult with known authorities regarding the names of specific countries outside Australia where dog fighting has not been made an illegal practice and refuse ALL export to these countries. |

| 12) A member shall ensure that when selling or transferring a dog to another person that documents, as required by the RNSWCC Rules and Regulations, are provided to the purchaser of the dog, however if documents are withheld for any reason, the Members must still comply with 7,8,10 and 12 of this Code of Ethics. |

| 13) Upon the sale of a dog a member shall supply the new owner with a current vaccination certificate signed by a Veterinary Surgeon evidencing that the dog has been immunised against Canine Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvo Virus. |

| 14) No dog should be sold in a state of ill heath. |

| 15) To promote good fellowship and sportsmanship by word and deed amongst members and those participating in or attending shows. |

| 16) A member may be expelled from membership of the Club by the Committee, if in the opinion of the Committee (after presenting such member an opportunity of explanation to the Committee regarding his or her conduct, either verbally of in writing, as the Committee may decide) the behaviour of the member is such as to be detrimental to the best interest of the Club. |

| 17) All Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners should stay abreast of current State/Local laws and legislation related to the dog. Your awareness can help in the prevention of Breed Specific Legislations. You are encouraged to take the time to educate the public regarding the Breed. |
